PETALING JAYA: Three points from three matches may not be much to shout about, but Kelantan possess a hot young talent who is setting tongues wagging.

The Red Warriors have been a threat on the flanks, and at the heart of that highlight is 23-year-old Fazrul Amir Zaman.

The nippy winger scored his first goal for Kelantan in memorable fashion in their 2-0 win over Penang on Sunday.

Fazrul unleashed a perfect half volley inside the box despite being under pressure from three players in the 37th minute for the second goal after Ismahel Akinade’s first strike in the 23rd.

He also wowed the fans with some mazy dribbles, and was a constant danger when cutting into the right or left from the flanks.

His shooting is also impressive, boasting an accuracy of 75% - among the highest in the league, with three shots out of four on target.

The boy from Tanah Merah is hopeful of increasing his tally but he’s aiming for more consistent displays first.

“Scoring against Penang was a good feeling and will boost my confidence. Last season, I did not even score a goal, so to do it this season is thrilling. Of course, I’m hungry for more but of equal importance is my overall performance is consistent,’’ said Fazrul, who comes from the Kelantan youth set-up.

“That half-volley was sweet because during training sessions, I’ve tried it but it never went in. But against Penang, it worked.

“It made me even happier as the goal helped us to our first win after the defeats to Pahang and Kuching City.”

Fazrul added that they are still adapting to the ways of South Korean coach Choi Moon-sik as he was trying out new formations in the first two games.

“I was first played in midfield but for the game against Penang, he played me in my preferred position, which is on the flanks.’’

Kelantan take on Johor Darul Ta’zim next at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri on March 11 and that will be a big occasion for Fazrul to further show what he is capable of.
