PETALING JAYA: Sabah defender Daniel Ting was an unlikely goal scorer against Pahang in their Super League match on Sunday.
While that alone was a cause for celebration, the joy was tinged with some discontent as the Rhinos left the Darulmakmur Stadium with just a point after a 1-1 draw.
Daniel had given Sabah the lead in the 14th minute before Kpah Sherman equalised for the Elephants in the 26th.
Sabah were also on the receiving end of some contentious decisions by referee Nur Azriel Baharudin, who even showed a red card to coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee for dissent.
It’s a sore point which Daniel intend to soothe when Sabah take on Penang at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu today.
‘’It was good to score against Pahang but I was hoping for a different outcome in the end. We had two clear penalties which were not awarded by the referee,’’ said the 30-year-old Daniel.
“Now, we’re determined to get full points against Penang.’’
Meanwhile, Penang coach Chong Yee Fatt (pic) admits they are under enormous pressure to get their first win of the season.
“Two points from four matches aren’t good enough and we have to do much better,’’ he said.
Sabah are second in the league with 10 points while Penang are 11th with two.
