‘Little’ Yohandry turning out to be lethal for Red Giants

PETALING JAYA: Venezuelan midfielder Yohandry Orozco (pic) may be small in stature but every movement of his has become more lethal now for Selangor.

The 32-year-old has finally overcome a slow start to make a huge impact for Red Giants in the Super League.

Orozco, a former VfL Wolfsburg and Deportivo Tachira player, struggled in the early stages of the season and only came on as a substitute in the first four games.

But in the last five league games, Orozco, who stands only 1.64m, has started in four of them and impressed with his visionary passing, work rate and versatility in midfield.

His left foot is magical, especially when it comes to set-pieces and passes.

He has pitched in with two assists in the last few matches, but most importantly, he has grown confident and continued to show his credentials under coach Tan Cheng Hoe’s system.

“I did extra work to give 100 percent commitment and contribute what is needed for Selangor,” said Orozco.

“The team continue to trust in me and that gives me more confidence.

“My teammates have been supportive and we are beginning to understand each other well,” added Orozco, who has been brushing up on his English.

On the tight competition against the likes of Brendan Gan, Mukhairi Ajmal Mahadi, Aliff Haiqal Lau, Alex Agyarkwa and Noor Al-Rawabdeh for the midfield position, Orozco said he was loving it.

“It is a very healthy competition in the midfield, where we all support each other,” he said.

“The key is to be united as a family to achieve the goals we have in mind.

“I’m enjoying the league here so far. I hope to play here for a long time and continue to show my potential.”
