PETALING JAYA: Azmeer Aris and Amer Azahar were absent during their Super League game against Kuching City at the City Stadium in Georgetown on Thursday due to a road accident.
It turned out that both of them had met an accident on Thursday but came out of it without any serious injuries.
Azmeer, 24, is thankful that he did not suffer any severe injuries, especially the day before his wedding ceremony, which took place on Friday.
Both were on their way to Georgetown to play in the game before the car they were driving was hit by a burning lorry on Thursday evening.
Narrating the anxious moment, Azmeer said they managed to get out of their Honda HRV when it was hit but the front of the car was crushed.
Both only suffered swelling in the right knee due to the impact and were relieved that they escaped major injuries.
“Amer and I were on our way to be with the team for the Super League match and there was a lorry on fire in front of us,” he said.
“I had time to stop the car, and there were many other vehicles close behind, but what a surprise we had when the lorry suddenly headed towards us.
“I couldn’t do anything because many other cars were close behind, and everything happened very quickly, but Alhamdulillah, we were able to get out safely.
“It’s just that my knee is slightly swollen due to the impact, but I’m thankful that nothing else happened to either one of us.
“My family and my wife’s family were worried but Alhamdulillah (Praise to God), the wedding ceremony went smoothly a day after,” he said.
Even without Azmeer and Azahar, Penang went on to beat Kuching City 2-1.
