PETALING JAYA: Perak need a change, badly, in order to get back to their winning ways.
Last week’s sacking of their head coach Lim Teong Kim was the first bombshell that came from the former Malaysia Cup champions camp.
Next up is having Argentine midfielder Luciano Guaycochea as the new captain by interim coach Yusri Che Lah.
The 31-year-old is honoured to be given that responsibility and his main mission now is to lead the Seladang on a winning trail and improve their position in the Super League.
“We have a new coach on board now, so the players have to adapt to his ways. Our mentality has to be strong, and we must stay as a team when we face Terengganu today in Ipoh,” said the former Deportivo Moron player when interviewed by the club media.
“I hope we can change our performance for the fans. As for my captaincy, it is a real honour to lead this team. I appreciate it.
“But we have to do this as one. It doesn’t matter if we are seniors or juniors, we have to be together. If we do good in the field, it’s enough for me.
“We need to play well and get results. Captain or not, my focus is on helping this team get back to our winning ways.”
Meanwhile, Yusri is hoping that his boys can give a good account of themselves against the Turtles.
“I hope the players will do their best. I am not a magician who creates something immediately. I want the fans to back the boys, and I want the boys to feel confident,” he said.
“We need to get points at home. The hot weather will have an impact because it’s an evening game, but Terengganu are playing in those conditions too. I hope we can adapt to it quickly.”
Perak have lost four times in a row, starting against Pahang (0-3), Penang (1-3), Johor Darul Ta’zim (0-5) and Kuala Lumpur (0-1).
Perak, who have two wins, three draws and seven defeats from 12 outings so far, are 11th in the Super League standings with nine points.
