Resilience shown against JDT will take Turtles far, says Sony

PETALING JAYA: Winger Sony Norde (pic) insists it’s no flight of fancy for him to think that Terengganu can finish in the top four of the Super League this season.

The Turtles lie seventh in the standings, after losing 1-3 to Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) last weekend. But what keeps Haitian Norde optimistic is the fight they gave the Southern Tigers despite being down to nine men.

“We showed resilience and still gave a good fight despite playing with nine men. We also created a lot of chances. I believe we will only get stronger after this experience and a top-four finish is possible,’’ said Norde, who also scored a gem of a goal against the Super League champions.

Before the loss to JDT, Terengganu had registered two wins on the trot – Penang (1-0) and Perak (3-0).

Terengganu now have 20 points, eight points behind the fourth-placed team, Pahang, in the standings.

In 10 starts, Norde has scored four goals and provided one assist, and he hopes to up his tallies when the season resumes after the international break, with Terengganu taking on Kedah on July 3.

But before that, the Turtles also have Kuala Lumpur to contend with in the FA Cup semi-final on June 25.

Norde intends to get Terengganu into the final.

“That would mean a lot to the Terengganu fans.”
