PETALING JAYA: Paulo Josue had a week to remember with the Harimau Malaya when he scored four goals in the friendlies against the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
And he wants that good form to continue when he leads his club Kuala Lumpur against Terengganu in the FA Cup semi-finals at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, Terengganu, tomorrow.
During the international period, the naturalised playmaker scored one in the 4-1 win over the Solomon Islands on June 14 and a hattrick in their 10-0 demolition of Papua New Guinea on June 20.
Both matches were played at the Sultan Mizan Stadium.
In those two games, he was deployed as a striker but now returning to club duties, expect him to play as an advanced playmaker, tasked to provide opportunities via set-pieces or through passes.
Josue is ready to give his best in whatever position he is assigned to.
“It all depends on the coach. Wherever he wants to play me, I’m game for it,” said the 34-year-old.
“I’ve played as a striker before under coach Bojan Hodak, so if he wants to play me there, I’ll do it.
“But for many years, I’ve played as an offensive midfielder. With Kuala Lumpur, that’s my role. I provide chances and also score goals. I hope whatever position that I’m put in, I can help the team get to the final of the FA Cup.
“Plus, it will be nice if I can continue my goal-scoring form at the Sultan Mizan Stadium.
“In my opinion, both sides have an equal chance but we have to be clinical. We have to take our chances well.”
This season in the Super League, Josue has been instrumental for the City Boys, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 14 games.
He was also in his element when Kuala Lumpur edged Sabah 2-1 in the FA Cup quarter-finals with his visionary passing and dangerous set-pieces.
And he is dreaming of playing in another Cup final.
“In 2021, we qualified for the Malaysia Cup final and won it. Last year, we went all the way to the AFC Cup final but lost it.
“This time, we hope to get to another final. It won’t be easy but we have the character and hunger to go all the way.
“The win against Sabah (quarters) showed that we mean business and we want to continue that against Terengganu.”
