Aguero set to be Pahang’s fulcrum in midfield after glorious return

PETALING JAYA: After a few weeks out due to injury, Sergio Aguero (pic) made a triumphant return when he led Pahang to a 5-0 win over Kelantan in the Super League on Friday.

The naturalised midfielder had earlier missed three games due to a muscle injury and was only expected to come on as a substitute in the big win over the Red Warriors.

But coach Fandi Ahmad needed a creative spark and included Aguero in the first XI. The Singaporean’s faith was rewarded as Aguero shone with a goal and two assists.

With the sparkling display, Aguero is expected to be the Elephants’ fulcrum in midfield for the upcoming matches and he’s looking forward to it.

“Of course, I am super happy to score and also provide the assists but most importantly, I helped the team get three points,” said the 29-year-old.

“The coach is using me now as a playmaker but he can also switch me to central midfield or the right wing.

“For me, that’s good as I can show how versatile and adaptable I am.’’

Aguero seems to have hit it off with Liberian striker Kpah Sherman in attack and is looking forward to playing with some new players after the second transfer window.

But it is learnt that Aguero is also a target of several Indonesian clubs.

He, however, has stated his intention to remain with Pahang.

“I hope to be here for a long time because my family are happy in Pahang.”
