New JDT signing Fernandes has Tigers’ appetite for silverware

PETALING JAYA: Watching his Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) teammates lift the FA Cup last Saturday has whetted new signing Heberty Fernandes’ (pic) appetite for silverware.

The Brazilian was signed from Bangkok United, becoming the ninth and final foreign player in the Southern Tigers’ list.

The 34-year-old comes in with quite a reputation as he was the top scorer in the Thai League, plundering 159 goals in 249 matches.

Fernandes is excited about his new advanture with JDT, after watching them beat KL 2-0 in the FA Cup final.

“It was quite a brilliant performance from the team and I’m very happy to be part of this family. I hope we can continue this excellent streak and win all the titles we’re targeting,” he said.

“I’ve also watched many of the team’s matches, so I know the quality in this team.’’

Fernandes needs no reminder of the stiff competition he faces to fight for a first XI spot as he has the likes of Bergson Da Silva, Fernando Forestieri, Syafiq Ahmad and Diogo Santo to contend with.

‘’I’m ready to put in the work and hopefully, I’ll get to play in the Super league match against Selangor (today),’’ he said.

JDT are top of the table with 51 points and boast a 100% record after 17 games. Selangor are second with 40 points.
