PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur’s Colombian import Romel Morales has gone from a middle man to a top marksman.
The 25-year-old’s hattrick in the City Boys’ 5-1 drubbing of Kelantan in the Super League on Saturday has taken his tally to nine goals in all competitions this season – making him the club’s leading scorer.
But the versatile playmaker still sees himself as a midfielder first as he considers his high strike rate just a bonus.
“I still prefer to be a midfielder as that’s my main position. I feel more comfortable in that role as I have more of the ball. But I’m also here to help the team play better in wherever way I can. So, if I’m played as a striker, I’ll do the best I can by scoring more goals,’’ said Morales.
Morales scored three of his goals in the 47th, 65th and 91st minutes in a match where KL had to bounce back from an early scare after Kelantan took a shock lead after just two minutes via Argentine midfielder Leanardo Rolon.
Midfielder Zhafri Yahya (25th) and winger J. Partiban (84th) were also target for the home side at the Cheras Football Stadium.
