PETALING JAYA: Kuching City are hopeful that Singaporean coach Aidil Sharin has what it takes to end their 17 games winless run in the Super League.
Currently 13th in the league with seven points, the club are looking to get out of the relegation zone and believes that Aidil can pull them out of the gutters.
Aidil joins the club from Indonesian side Persikabo. He had the experience of coaching in Malaysia when he trained Kedah from 2019 to 2022.
The 46-year-old is aware of the situation that the team are in and has vowed to bring back teamwork and harmony to the side.
“We understand the situation, we have not won games. The morale is down. My job is to work on that. I want to boost their morale to increase their confidence,” he said.
“For me, everything is about teamwork. We have to repay the faith of the management. They’ve done everything they can to steer the team.
“As for myself, I can’t change much but just instil confidence among the boys. They’ve played a while under coach Irfan (Bakti), so can’t change much in terms of tactics and playing style.”
When asked about what improvements need to be done, Aidil was frank with his answer.
“Honestly, all areas. Football is all about improvement. We will look at the standings and statistics and see what can be done.
“It takes time but I believe it can happen with their players’ commitment and attitude.
“We will work on team harmony and bonding because we want to ensure that unity and being one can lead to success.
“To win games, you have to be together, that’s important.”
Aidil will have improvements coming in as the club have signed two new midfielders to bolster the squad.
Namibian playmaker Petrus Shitembi and Tajikistani midfielder Nuriddin Davronov will join the Il Gattos (The Cats) next week.
They will replace Ivorian midfielder Dechi Marcel Nguessan and Uzbekistani winger Sirojiddin Kuziev.
Kuching will take on Sabah in the Malaysia Cup round of 16 first leg match at the City Stadium, Kuching tomorrow.
