Battle gets bigger for Red Warriors after they bag first win in 15 games

PETALING JAYA: Kelantan have finally won in the Super League after 15 games!

But coach Alfredo Vera has reminded his boys that they still have a battle to go through in the next seven games.

Facing a relegation battle, the Red Warriors kept their hopes of staying in the league alive after beating Negri Sembilan 2-0 at the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium in Kota Baru on Wednesday.

Argentinian midfielder Leonardo Rolon starred with two screamers in the second and 30th minutes to give his club just their second win in 19 matches.

The first was a 30m freekick, in which he unleashed a venomous knuckleball shot that beat goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel Sikh Azman.

The second, also using the same technique, was scored from 25m out.

The 28-year-old Rolon, a former Argentina Under-20 player, now has four goals in 10 matches and will be the man Kelantan, 13th in the league with eight points from 19 matches, will rely on to get out of the relegation zone.

Vera said: “They have to work, as we are still at the bottom. If we play like how we played against Negri Sembilan, nothing is impossible but we have to get out of the relegation zone, that’s crucial,” said Vera.
