PETALING JAYA: Terengganu are hoping to strike it right again at Kota Baru’s Sultan Mohd IV Stadium.
Just six days after beating Kelantan United 4-1, the Turtles will be taking on Kelantan today and coach Tomislav Steinbruckner is hopeful that they can get their second win in a row in the league.
The Croatian said the victory over Kelantan United was a confidence-booster as they had earlier drawn three straight matches against Kuala Lumpur (3-3), Police (0-0) and Negri Sembilan (1-1).
“Getting three points against Kelantan United was good and now we hope to get another full points against the other Kelantan team. We’ve won on that pitch before and we believe we can do it again,” said Steinbruckner.
“We have more motivation, conviction and confidence now. In the last two matches in all competitions, we have scored eight goals, which is good.
“But I have told the boys, when facing teams that are lower than us in the standings, we have to be patient. We have to wait for our chances. But when it comes, take it.”
The Turtles are sixth in the league with 29 points, eight points adrift of fourth-placed Pahang and know they need to get maximum points in the next seven matches.
Terengganu can bank on Croatian striker Ivan Mamut and winger Nik Shareef Haseefy who have showed great form in recent weeks.
Mamut is the team’s top scorer with seven goals, while Shareef is known for his trickery on the flanks, together with players like Norhakim Hassan and Engku Nur Syakir Engku Yacob.
Not only that, Steinbruckner is bold enough to start youngsters like Safwan Mazlan and Ubaidullah Shamsul Fazili in defence.
“We have players that we can rotate, so depth is good. Players like Ubai and Safwan, I’ve trained them since pre-season and know they have what it takes to play for the first team.
“Whoever is given the starting eleven berth against Kelantan, I expect them to give their best.”
