PETALING JAYA: It’s difficult to have different partners to work with every week but footballer Yazan Al-Arab has made it look easy.
The Selangor centreback, who has been partnered with a few players in the centre of defence, has blended in well.
The 27-year-old has played alongside Sharul Nazeen Zulphakar, Harith Haiqal Adam Afkar, Singaporean international Safuwan Baharuddin and Ghanaian Richmond Ankrah in centreback.
Al-Arab has played 20 matches in all competitions, being a key part of Selangor’s defence throughout the season.
He is known for his aerial duels and known for his ability to play the ball from the back, whether long or short passes.
“It is not easy to change the formation and have different partners due to suspension or injuries but I’m fine with it,” said the Jordanian international.
“We understand each other and everyone is excited to help the team and provide the best possible performance.”
The club are still able to deliver results despite the constant changes at the backline as they are second in the Super League and have a sizeable lead coming into the Malaysia Cup last 16 second-leg match against Police.
The Red Giants beat the Cops 4-1 in the first-leg and will look to finish them off today at the Petaling Jaya Stadium.
There is always the risk of overconfidence but Al-Arab said the team are ready to enter the quarter-finals in style.
“We will play with the same mentality, spirit and focus.
“I trust the players and we respect all our opponents.
“Overconfidence had been the downfall of many teams but we will play true to our form, we can win.”
