PETALING JAYA: Kelantan fans have had enough of their team’s torrid performance and they have shown it with signs and flares.
And their actions could lead to a fine for the club, with the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) confirming that the matter is being investigated.
After the 2-11 defeat against Selangor in the Super League, fans gathered outside of the Sultan Mohd IV Stadium car park and set off flares, urging the team owner Norizam Tukiman to leave the club.
The videos of the incident have gone viral on social media.
The frustration stems from the disjointed performances of the team in the last few weeks as they have been annihilated by several teams with big scorelines.
During the game against Selangor, the fans formed a sad emoji sign in the stands, airing their sadness over the team’s predicament.
FAM secretary-general Datuk Noor Azman Rahman confirmed that the body would issue a letter to Kelantan on the flare incident.
"I have compiled all the videos of the flare incident. We will take action on the matter. This will be similar to what we did to JDT in the past when their fans set up flares in the stadium. We will issue a letter to Kelantan in the next few days," he said.
"For us, we do not want this to happen again. It’s a matter of safety."
Kelantan’s new chief executive officer (CEO) Ahmad Muzakkir Hamid said he took full responsibility for the defeat, adding he even hugged the players before the game.
"We were leading 2-0 against a club that’s second in the league. But no excuses. I have my own key performance indicator (KPI). It’s just my second day as CEO but I take full responsibility for this 2-11 defeat," he said.
