PETALING JAYA: Selangor are seeing red over the unruly behaviour of some of their players in the second-leg of the Malaysia Cup quarter-finals at the Petaling Jaya Stadium on Sunday.
Several incidents in the highly competitive match are now being investigated.
Selangor drew 1-1 with Terengganu but were shown the exit with a 1-3 aggregate.
Jordanian Yazan Al-Arab was at the centre of controversy for kicking referee Mohd Hasrol Mohd Amir and was flashed the red card.
Selangor’s Noor Al-Rawabdeh as well as Terengganu’s Suhaimi Husin and Safwan Mazlan received yellow cards.
The Red Giants did not name any player but, in an official statement on Facebook page, said the club condemned any and all unsportsmanlike behaviour.“The club reiterate the importance of sportsmanship in our game,” Selangor FC said in their official Facebook page.
“The club are also conducting an internal review of the incidents. We believe that any dissatisfaction should be channelled through appropriate channels and in this regard, the club will submit a report seeking clarification on the standard of refereeing throughout the match.”
Selangor may miss Al-Arab’s services when they meet Terengganu again – this time in the Super League – at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak tomorrow.
The centreback has already apologised for his conduct in his Facebook page.
“No words can describe my feelings at the moment. I’m sorry team, sorry if I let you guys down, sorry to all the Red Giant fans,” he said.
“I will take this as a lesson for me to become better. It happened in the heat of the moment, and because of the psychological pressure we faced during the match.
“My cousin just passed away a few weeks ago. I know that this is not a reason for me to do what I did, and it’s not my character.”
Al-Arab’s absence could make things tough for Tan Cheng Hoe’s aim of rebounding with a win over Terengganu tomorrow to hold on to their second spot in the Super League.
