PETALING JAYA: For Sabah’s utility man Jafri Firdaus Chew, 2023 has been a season to build his confidence.
The former Harimau Muda player admitted that he is not too satisfied with his performances this year as he has only started six Super League games out of the 14 he played, and scored two goals.
In the AFC Cup, he played four games and scored one goal. He has played 24 games for Sabah in all competitions.
In his last Super League match on Monday, the 26-year-old impressed by scoring a goal in the 7-0 win against Kelantan at the UiTM Stadium in Shah Alam.
Jafri hopes to come up with another top notch performance as they take on Terengganu at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak today.
“It’s a challenge, that’s for sure. Just like us, Terengganu are also playing in the AFC Cup and we can see that they have been one of the most consistent sides since the middle of the year,” he said.
“The result against Kelantan was positive as we want to head into the Terengganu match with lots of confidence. We aim to finish third in the league, so every game will be crucial.
“As for my performance, I feel I can do better but this is a year for me to gain confidence and it is coming back. I want to help Sabah end the season well and continue their good performance in the AFC Cup.”
Sabah are currently fourth in the Super League with 45 points from 23 games.
After the game against Terengganu, they will play Hougang United in their fifth AFC Cup Group H match at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on Jan 30.
