The going’s good for Orozco and Co despite long break

PETALING JAYA: Selangor have not had any competitive outings for the past two months but their Venezuelan midfielder Yohandry Orozco (pic) is not worried.

Orozco believes they are in good shape to face Perak in their Super League game at the Petaling Jaya Stadium today.

The side coached by Tan Cheng Hoe have won their last four league games, with the last one against Terengganu (4-0) on Sept 29.

“We have been working hard during the break to improve our level to face Perak,” said the 32-year-old, who played for sides like VfL Wolfsburg and Deportivo Tachira in the past.

“Perak have improved in all aspects but we cannot let them dictate the pace, we want to get the three points.”

Orozco, who has won 25 caps with Venezuela, has been one of the best providers for the team in the league and showed that he can score goals too with his left foot.

In the Super League, he has played 21 games, started in 15, scored six goals and made eight assists.

He also scored two goals in three FA Cup matches, and two goals and one assist in four Malaysia Cup games.

“The important thing is to finish the tournament well and qualify for second to go to the AFC Cup,” said Orozco.

“We’ll see if I will continue with Selangor, but for now my thoughts are to finish the tournament in the best way.”

Selangor remained second in the league with 52 points from 23 games, but they face a tough fight from Kedah, who are two points behind in third spot, for a place in the AFC Cup.

After the game against Perak, Selangor will face off with Kedah on Dec 2 at the Darul Aman Stadium.
