PETALING JAYA: Terengganu central defender Argzim Redzovic is hoping to make it count in his second attempt to lift a football trophy in Malaysia.
The 31-year-old player from Montenegro is hopeful of making it to the starting 11 and help Terengganu spoil the party for favourites Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) in the Malaysia Cup final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Friday.
JDT are featuring in their fourth consecutive final and are looking to retain the title to add to their earlier successes in the Charity Shield, Super League and FA Cup.
Terengganu lost 1-3 to JDT in the FA Cup final last year and this Friday will mark the first appearance for the Turtles in a Malaysia Cup final since 2018 when they lost 1-4 on penalties to Perak.
The only time Terengganu were champions was in 2001 when they defeated Perak 2-1.
“We have another chance to make up for the disappointment of losing the FA Cup final last season.
“We have a mission to win the Cup for the second time but personally I want to lift my first trophy after six years in Malaysia,” said Redzovic, who has also played for Police and Terengganu’s feeder team.
“JDT are the favourites as they have top players in every department. We will fight all the way until the final whistle. We will not be intimidated, we have beaten them before and we will do it again on Friday.”
Terengganu ended JDT’s 21-match unbeaten run by winning 1-0 at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri in the 2021 Super League season.
