PETALING JAYA: Centreback Aidil Zafuan Abdul Razak is a revered figure in Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) but could 2023 be his last year with them?
The 36-year-old Aidil has won 26 titles and is the only player to have lifted 10 straight Super League titles.
On Saturday, he had looked emotional when winger Arif Aiman Hanapi went towards him to celebrate his first goal as JDT went on a 8-0 demolition of Penang in the final Super League game at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.
“Of course I feel delighted and thankful to win the title again, I”m fortunate and proud to be with JDT every step of the way over the years,” said Aidil.
“That makes me a little emotional because it is not easy for any player to win 10 Super League titles in a row.
“I was also surprised when Arif came to hug me after he scored the first goal but I think it was an honour and show of respect by him.
“I hope Arif can break my record of becoming a 10-year champion because he is still young and has a long way to go.”
This season though, he has not had many minutes and only played one Super League game this season but his influence in the club is strong.
His presence in the dressing room has helped stabilise the team and also inspired young ones to do well.
The 36-year-old is uncertain of his future.
“I still do not know whether I will get my spot for next season. I will first meet with the management to discuss and wait for the decision from JDT,” he said.
“I am comfortable with the young players at JDT. We can share laughter and also problems. I tried to give them advice for the advancement of their careers,” added Aidil.
Even if he does not play for the team next season, he can be a great asset as a coach or advisor for the team in future.
