PETALING JAYA: Just days after Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) won the unprecedented 10 consecutive Super League titles, another sport in Johor has also taken the centrestage.
Johor’s girls’ Under-19 team became the first-ever champions in the National Under-19 Interstate cricket tournament at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bangi on Sunday.
Led by team manager Haikal Harith and coached by former international Azhar Zainal, the girls trounced Negri Sembilan, Perak, Selangor and Pahang to march into the final.
They saved their best act in the final where they ruthlessly beat Sarawak. The tournament attracted eight state teams.
The win augurs well for Johor’s preparation for next week’s women’s T10 Interstate championships which will see seven state teams participating.
Also the win should see Johor qualify under Category A for the Malaysia Games (Sukma).
Women’s T10 cricket will be contested in Sukma in Sarawak.
Johor Cricket Council (JCC) president Datuk Avinderjit Singh he was super proud of the achievement.
“The victory is a humble gift to His Majesty Sultan Johor, who is going to be installed as the nation’s next King.”
