Fernando will continue shining for JDT till next season

PETALING JAYA: Striker Fernando Forestieri will be staying with the league giants Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) until next season after all.

In a turn of events, the Argentinian-Italian attacker has been re-hired by the 10-time Super League champions just two weeks after the club announced his departure together with many others in the team.

The news of the former Watford and Sheffield player’s return was announced by the club’s chief executive officer Alistair Edwards in a statement on Sunday.

“Following talks among club owner Tunku Mahkota of Johor (TMJ) Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Fernando Forestieri, and myself, the forward will remain in the JDT squad in addition to three new foreign players to strategically strengthen the team in certain positions for the 2024-2025 season.”

Earlier this month, the club had initially announced that the 33-year-old player would be leaving the squad in an effort to reduce the team’s financial constraints.

Forestieri joined the Southern Tigers in 2022 and played an integral part in the club’s two straight quadruples in 2022 and 2023 while scoring 47 goals and contributing 21 assists since arriving in Johor.
