PETALING JAYA: Melaka are looking to get into the Super League but will first discuss with the Amateur Football League (AFL) and M3 clubs on the plan.
Melaka Football Association (MAFA) deputy president Datuk Mohd Saiful Mat Sapri said they have initiated discussions to refine the plan.
“Regarding participation in the Super League for the year 2024, MAFA are currently at the discussion stage with M3 League clubs to refine Malacca’s participation to play in the Super League,” he said.
“Many things need to be looked into by MAFA, including getting views from the Amateur Football League (AFL).
“The MAFA executive committee are determined and committed to improving the quality and standard of football in the state of Melaka, so that the state can return to being one of the country’s football powerhouses.
“MAFA celebrate their 100th anniversary this year and need a breath of fresh air by producing quality players from Melaka.”
Melaka played in the M3 last season after failing to obtain a licence to play in the Super League last season due to financial issues.
In the M3, Melaka finished 10th with 31 points but many have mooted that they could return to the Super League due to previous experiences.
Financially strapped Kelantan had to forget about their desire to remain in the Super League for the 2024-2025 season after the Malaysian Football League (MFL) rejected the club’s appeal for a national licence.
Chairman of the MFL Club Licensing Appeal Committee Mohd Yasin Abdullah said yesterday the decision was made following Article 3.4.4 contained in the MFL Club Licensing Regulations 2023 Edition.
On Jan 18, the MFL announced that the governing body of the country’s professional football league will re-open extraordinary licence applications to all M3 AFL clubs to apply for a licence to participate in the 2024-2025 Super League.
This extraordinary licence application is reopened to AFL M3 clubs based on Articles 4.5, 4.6 and Annexe III of the MFL Club Licensing Regulations.
