Chilean striker Ronnie gets set to give his all for Selangor


PETALING JAYA: It doesn’t get any better than this for Selangor.

The Red Giants’ new Chilean striker Ronnie Fernandez is a journeyman who is not shy to share his knowledge and experiences with his new teammates.

“I am a seasoned player. I like to compete and I like to win. The 33-year-old said joining Selangor was a mutual decision and he was looking to experience a new culture in his decade-long career as a professional player.

He believes years playing in Chile, Saudi Arabia, Bolivia and the United Arab Emirates would help him impart some knowledge to his new teammates.

“Being part of the team is a mutual decision.

“I like to have new experiences. For me, I can play football anywhere, and it will be the same here too. Coming to a big team in Asia and playing on the Asian stage will be important to me too.

“The experience I have might help the team. I have gone through almost 15 years in my footballing career, playing in Asia and South America. I got to play against experienced international players throughout my life.

Fernandez who joined the Red Giants from Bolivian club Bolivar has started training with his new teammates and making an impression with his plays as a target man.

“I believe football players should have to learn to adapt themselves to the team wherever they go,” he said.

“When my teammates see that they are going to have a player who gives himself 100% to the team, it gives them confidence.

“It will help me to adapt faster and we will be able to trust each other.

“It will strengthen the team and eventually build up to make a great team.”
