Htet Aung aims to get on the scoring sheet with Negri

PETALING JAYA: Hein Htet Aung (pic) has had enough of being known as a player in the assist charts.

The Myanmar international winger aims to step up this year when he plays for Negri Sembilan in the Super League.

Only 22 but Htet Aung has played in the Malaysian League for four seasons now and made a strong impression with Selangor before going on a loan stint with Negri last year.

The former Hanthawaddy United player now wants to score goals regularly despite his position as a winger.

“It is good to be back here again. Last season, it was six months, but this time, it is a season-long loan, so I am looking forward to giving my best for the Deer,” he said.

“I want to score as many goals as possible, that’s my target this season. I will still assist the other attackers with my crosses and passes but I would love to add my goal tally too.

“Since I made my debut in 2021 in the M-League, I’ve only scored nine goals, seven with Selangor and two with Negri last season. I aim to improve this season.”

But competition for places will be there especially for the winger’s spot, as he will take on the likes of Ikhwan Yazek, N. Javaabilarivin, A. Selvan and Ikhwan Yazek for the two wing spots in the first eleven. Htet Aung said just because he was an import player, does not mean he was a shoo-in for the first eleven.

“Competing is good. No issues at all. I am happy to be training alongside these men because I see them as brothers. Jostling for positions in the first eleven with each other is good for the club too,” said Htet Aung.

“We have just started pre-season, so it is important if we work on our bond and also slowly build our match fitness before the season starts in May.”
