PETALING JAYA: Kpah Sherman has only trained for a day but it was enough to inspire him to dream big with Pahang.
The Liberian international said the players were highly motivated to get into tip-top shape before the Super League season starts in May and that has fuelled the fire in him to become the Elephants’ top scorer.
“I have a record in mind,” said the 32-year-old.
“Matheus Alves is currently the highest goalscorer with Pahang in a season with 18 goals. I want to break that.”
Sherman scored 12 goals in the league last season.
“I hope to help them win any one of the domestic Cups as well.
“We want to justify all the support and resources the team owner (Tengku Muda Pahang Tengku Abdul Rahman Al-Haj Sultan Ahmad Shah) has put in place for the club. We want to make him happy.”
Sherman, the 2019 Super League Golden Boot winner, is one of the several key foreign players retained by the club.
The other players retained are Argentinian centreback Stefano Brundo and Uzbekistani midfielder Kuvondik Ruziev.
What has further whetted Sherman’s appetite is the signing of several top-notch attackers like Argentinian winger Manuel Hidalgo, Ukrainian second striker Mykola Ahapov and Malaysian Under-23 winger T. Saravanan.
The player with 12 international caps said the club have added more attacking ammunition.
“The quality is good. That is why the motivation level is high during training. I hope the management will continue to keep us motivated throughout the season.”Coach Fandi Ahmad had made some changes to beef up the team.
“He has improved on the technical team and training flow is a little different. There many attackers positioned behind me and I hope it will pay off. We can’t depend just on me for goals.
“Hidalgo’s return is good and Ahapov shows quality. Ruziev has also got used to the Malaysian environment. It is good for the club.”
Sherman has been playing in the Malaysian League since 2017, starting with MISC-MIFA in the Premier League. He then moved to PKNS in 2019, where he became the Super League top scorer with 14 goals.
Then he moved to Kedah, where he played from 2020 to 2021 before joining Terengganu in 2022 and then Pahang last year.
“It is just working out fine for me here, I love Malaysia, it is home for me. I’m glad that I’m still valued by clubs in this part of the world and I intend to give more.”
