PETALING JAYA: Midfielder Brendan Gan is in demand.
It is learnt that Super League sides Pahang and Kuala Lumpur are eager to snap him up during the transfer window as Brendan is looking at continuing his professional career in Malaysia after leaving Selangor in January.
The 35-year-old is currently focused on his national team assignment as he is part of the squad for the World Cup 2026-Asian Cup 2027 second-round qualifiers. Harimau Malaya will play Oman in Group D on March 21 in Muscat and in Bukit Jalil on March 26.
Brendan said he rather stay focused on his national duty for now.
“I knew this question will be asked but I’ve not finalised any move yet.
‘‘You may know my move earlier than I do,” he said in jest.
“I’m concentrating on doing well with the national team.
‘‘I’m just happy to be in the camp and I want to do my best for the country.
Brendan, who played for the Harimau Malaya at the recent Asian Cup in Qatar, has made 80 appearances for Selangor and scored 14 goals.
Despite his age, Brendan remains a target of Malaysian clubs due to his leadership, commitment and professionalism.
According to sources close to Pahang and Kuala Lumpur, Brendan had asked about the state of the teams, the training centres and life in those cities as he wants to ensure his family lives in comfort too.
Kuala Lumpur chief executive officer (CEO) Stanley Bernard Samuel said they were monitoring Brendan but for now, they want to settle their salary arrears first.
“It would be a dream (to have Brendan) but it is still too early as we have our own issues to settle,” said Stanley.
“What’s important is that we are showing that our intent. I’ve discussed with the senior players, they want Kuala Lumpur to be competitive.
Wherever the destination, Brendan will remain as a top draw in the Super League.
