Safiq Rahim's car windscreen was smashed by an anonymous attacker on Tuesday night.

PETALING JAYA: Defending Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim have beefed up their security for players after Safiq Rahim was a victim of an anonymous attack.

The former national captain Safiq escaped unhurt after two men broke his rear windscreen in Johor Baru on Tuesday night (May 7).

The 36-year-old, who plays for Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) revealed the incident on his social media account by posting a police report.

"I did not expect myself to be attacked near the JDT training centre. Looks like we have to be real careful," said Safiq, who posted a photo of his smashed car and police report on his Instagram account late Tuesday (May 7) night.

The incident happened after he went to collect some items from the training centre and returned to his residence in Johor Baru.

As he was headed to Pantai Lido, two men on a motorcycle used a hammer to break his back mirror.

Shocked, he stopped his car and the two men went towards him but the player was able to reverse his car and the perpetrators left the scene.

The club’s chief executive officer Alistair Edwards said the Southern Tigers are concerned over the incident and advised their players to be mindful of their surroundings.

"Johor Darul Ta'zim are concerned about the incident involving Safiq where his car was smashed near the JDT Training Centre on Tuesday night," said Edwards.

"We urge the Royal Malaysian Police to investigate the matter urgently.

"The incident, together with the recent attacks on Akhyar Rashid and Faisal Halim, has no place in football. Due to these recent cases, JDT have boosted the security of our players as a precautionary measure.

"We have also advised our players to be cautious of their surroundings and postings on social times at all times."

The latest incident comes days after national winger Faisal Halim, who is also known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack in Damansara last Sunday (May 5).

On May 2, national winger and Terengganu player Akhyar Rashid was assaulted and robbed near his residence in Kuala Terengganu.
