Physical and emotional support pour in for Mickey

PETALING JAYA: Help is coming in various forms for national and Selangor player Faisal Halim as he looks to recover from the harrowing acid attack.

Despite having medical insurance, Selangor Football Club have pledged to give the best treatment for the player fondly known as Mickey.

The club’s chief executive officer Dr Johan Kamal Hamidon said they are letting the specialists tending to Faisal to suggest the best ways to help with his recovery and also rehabilitation.

“Financially, he doesn’t need to worry because the Sultan of Selangor, the Crown Prince and the state government have said they will contribute to his treatment,” he said.

“The expenses will not only be for his physical treatment but also his emotional support. We will also help his loved ones, especially his wife, who has been with him throughout this ordeal.”

Selangor Football Club (SFC) technical committee chairman Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said Faisal is showing positive signs after two surgeries.

Shahril joined the Crown Prince of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah to visit Faisal at a hospital in Shah Alam and briefed the media on his progress.

Shahril said Faisal was beginning to eat again.

“But his recovery process will take some time as he needs to go for a few more surgeries including a skin allograft.

“I am glad that Faisal is immediately stabilising and showing some improvements,” said Johan.

“I know the club are seeing what needs to be done when it comes to the emotional and mental state of everyone involved in this.”

When asked about the state of the dressing room, Johan said everyone is supporting each other during this tough time.

“All the boys including the coaches are supporting and encouraging each other. We are aware of the solidarity outside there for Faisal and for the team as well.

“The whole squad are a bit down and we are doing things to ensure they are in a good environment.”
