Sabah nails Borneo derby with 2-1 victory over Kuching

PETALING JAYA: Sabah have conquered the Borneo derby.

The Rhinos defeated Kuching City 2-1 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Saturday (May 25).

The Cats drew first blood in the 64th minute through Brazilian striker Pedro Henrique.

But the Sabahans fought back valiantly by scoring two goals, one from striker Darren Lok (75th) and winger Jafri Firdaus Chew (85th).

In Kuala Lumpur, the City Boys were whopped 1-5 by defending league champions Johor Darul Ta’zim at the Cheras Football Stadium.

Winger Juan Muniz (46th and 71st) and striker Fernando Forestieri (43rd and 61st) scored a double each, while wingback Syahmi Safari scored the fifth in the 88th minute. Kuala Lumpur’s sole goal was scored by Paulo Josue in the 45th minute.

In Selayang, Police were held 1-1 by Penang at the Selayang Stadium. Striker Ifedayo Olusegun was the goalscorer for Police in the 32nd minute, while Penang’s goal was scored by Rodrigo Dias in the 52nd minute.
