PETALING JAYA: Being at home is the best for Faisal Halim to recover psychologically, according to Selangor FC board member Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
The 26-year-old national and Selangor winger was discharged from Avisena Hospital in Shah Alam yesterday afternoon. He has been at the hospital since May 5.
Faisal, fondly known as Mickey, had undergone four surgeries to treat his fourth-degree acid burn injuries.
Selangor said Faisal’s rapid recovery was remarkable as some doctors had earlier said it would take some time from him to recover.
The specialists have also encouraged Faisal to continue his recovery at home.
“He needs a different environment for his next phase of recovery. We also believe that it would help him psychologically to be around his loved ones during his recovery process,” he said.
“We know he is eager to get back to playing but it will take a few months for him to return to the field again. After the skin grafting procedures, he needs some time to recover, especially with his walking and so on.
“But Faisal is a fighter. He is an inspiration to all and we can’t wait to see him back in action again.”
The club and Faisal’s family have requested that all parties give him the space and privacy to focus on his recovery process.
“Let us continue to pray for Faisal’s well-being and full recovery, and may he and his family be given the strength to overcome this difficult time,” said Shahril.
Selangor also expressed their gratitude to Dr Wan Syazli Rodzalan Wan Ahmad Kamal, a specialist in the plastic and reconstructive unit, and all staff of Avisena Specialist Hospital and Thomson Hospital Damansara who have been committed to providing comprehensive care and made significant contributions to Faisal’s recovery.
They also thanked the Selangor FC family, state and national leaders, government and private agencies, local and international football communities and all Malaysians who have provided moral support and prayed for the well-being of Faisal.
Faisal suffered fourth degree burns after he was splashed with sulfuric acid by two unknown assailants on May 5 at a shopping centre in Damansara.
