PETALING JAYA: Grassroots football development in Malaysia will get a boost as the Real Madrid Foundation Educational Football Programme is set to commence in Kuala Lumpur.
The year-round educational programme, scheduled to kick off in October, will combine teaching sports-related values through football.
Based at the International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) campus in Ampang Hilir, the programme from the Spanish giants will give children under 18 the opportunity to be trained using the Real Madrid methodology.
Spokesperson for the Real Madrid Foundation Clinic Malaysia, Dr. V Nathan, said the 15-time Champions League winners’ methods have been proven.
“We are now able to use the Real Madrid methodology and teach football to children while instilling good values through the game. This might be good news for grassroots development,” he said.
Nathan said this during the foundation’s clinic at ISKL, which is in its second year following last year’s success.
Held for two three-day sessions from June 11-17, a total of 135 kids got the chance to be under the guidance of Real’s reserve team coach, Marcos Jimenez.
Among them, 40 marginalised children were also given the golden opportunity to train, thanks to the sponsorship of RedOne Network Sdn Bhd.
Nathan added that the programme’s permanent stay in ISKL will give many children the chance to train with experienced coaches from the foundation throughout the year.
“No more waiting for the periodical football clinic to come to Kuala Lumpur. Children can now train under this renowned methodology week in and week out,” he said.
