Angry Netizens slam Selangor’s harsh fine as excessive

PETALING JAYA: Many netizens have been left outraged by the Malaysian Football League’s (MFL) decision to penalise Selangor for withdrawing from the Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim last month.

The MFL have fined Selangor RM100,000, deducted three points for their action and ordered them to play their next match against JDT in an empty stadium.

On top of that, Selangor will also have to bear the costs incurred by JDT and MFL in cancelling the Charity Shield match on May 10.

This is despite the MFL rejecting Selangor’s appeal to postpone the match and awarding JDT a 3-0 win. The Red Giants decided to withdraw from the game due to security concerns after their winger Faisal Halim was splashed with acid by an assailant on May 5.

Netizens did not mince their words as they took to social media to slam the MFL for the penalties imposed, which were deemed excessive.

The decision to ban fans from Selangor’s next match against JDT provoked the most ire.
