PETALING JAYA: The support for Selangor continues to grow.
The Selangor Solidarity Fund, which was set up on Wednesday to assist the club in paying their fine to the Malaysian Football League (MFL), has collected over RM40,000 as of yesterday evening.
Selangor youth, sports, and entrepreneurship committee chairman Najwan Halimi took to his social media to share the news, announcing that the crowdfunding campaign had grown to RM40.843.02.
“For everyone’s information, the total amount of donations that have been received for the Selangor Solidarity Fund since June 26 is RM40,843.02,” said Najwan.
“Thank you to all the contributors from all across the country who have shown support and solidarity to Selangor,” he said on X. Selangor had been fined RM100,000 for refusing to play their Charity Shield match against Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on May 10, after winger Faisal Halim suffered an acid attack five days earlier.
However, the MFL board of directors reduced Selangor’s fine to RM60,000, following an angry outburst from Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, slamming the league for the harsh fine.
MFL had also lifted their ban, so now spectators are allowed to attend the match between home side Selangor and JDT at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium. They have also cancelled the three-point deduction.
Najwan added that even a donation of RM1 is encouraged.
“This is not just about giving money but providing a platform for fans of Selangor and football to show their solidarity with the club,” he said.
