FRANKFURT, Germany (Reuters) - German police are investigating a video appearing to show stadium personnel viciously beating a fan during the Portugal v Slovenia Euro 2024 match.

The video, which Reuters has not been able to verify, shows a man in a steward's top repeatedly hitting someone in the face as colleagues restrain him in a Frankfurt Arena gangway. Two others kick and beat the man further when he falls to the floor.

"We are aware of the video and we are investigating a case of suspected bodily harm," said Frankfurt police spokesperson Binto Lond.

The video appeared in some media after Monday's last-16 game which Portugal won with a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw.

There has so far been minimal crowd violence during the month-long tournament in Germany, though Europe's football governing body UEFA has repeatedly condemned offensive chanting and the use of fireworks.

"UEFA is aware of an incident which took place between stewards and a fan from the Portugal vs Slovenia match and condemns any violent behaviour," it said in a statement.

"The incident in the video is now the subject of a police investigation. UEFA is not in a position to comment further until the investigation has been completed."
