(Reuters) - Bologna have signed defender Juan Miranda on a free transfer from Real Betis, the Serie A club announced on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, who has one goal in his single senior appearance for Spain, can play as either a central defender or left-back.

He could be a replacement for Riccardo Calafiori, who is rumoured to be leaving the club soon as Arsenal, Chelsea, and Juventus have shown interest.

Bologna exceeded everyone's expectations last season, finishing fifth in Serie A and securing a spot in the upcoming Champions League competition.
