PICK OF THE PUNDITS

T. AVINESHWARAN

(Germany to win 3-1)

THIS could be the match of the tournament. The two giants have delivered so far, with the Spaniards lighting up the flanks through their young phenoms Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal, while the Germans have shown that they are back to their efficient best led by the talismanic Toni Kroos.

Expect an end-to-end game with Kroos making the difference for Germany. The unpredictable Kai Havertz could also be a match-winner for the hosts.

DARYL GOH

(Germany to win 1-0)

If lucky hosts Germany give Spain, arguably Euro 2024’s best team, the same chances Denmark had but missed, they’ll be bundled out faster than you can say “halftime!” La Roja, technically magical, youthful, and ruthless, can run rings around the Germans. However, with growing confidence, Nagelsmann-era Germany remains a formidable opponent with everything to play for. This looks to be a slow-burner match, with the Germans likely to take the sting out of the game and decisively do enough to nick a winner.

RIZAL HASHIM

(Germany to win 2-0)

History suggests teams that impressed most in group matches in any major tournaments rarely make it through to the final. This encounter would have been my pick for the final but fate conspired to deny either Toni Kroos a fitting farewell or Lamine Yamal a golden tournament debut.

Despite winning all four of their matches, scoring nine goals and keeping three clean sheets, Spain will have their work cut out against an efficient German outfit that are singing to Jamal Musiala’s tune.

The home side to advance to the last four.
