DORTMUND: Harry Kane became the player with most goals scored in European Championship knock-out games with his equaliser in England’s 2-1 victory against Holland on Wednesday.

Kane scored his third goal of the tournament and sixth in a Euros knock-out match as he found the net from the spot in the 18th minute to cancel out Xavi Simons’ opener.

Ollie Watkins’ dramatic winner in stoppage time secured England a spot in the Euro 2024 final against Spain on Sunday.

Antoine Griezmann of France is second on the list with five goals, while Nuno Gomes (Portugal), Dieter Müller (Germany), Dragan Dzajic (Yugoslavia) and Gerd Muller (Germany) are joint third-placed with four goals.

Kane has been widely criticised as he and his English team have presented a poor performance at Euro 2024. He previously scored in the 1-0 group stage win against Denmark and in the 2-1 victory over Slovakia in the last 16.

In the all-time list of top scores at Euros, Kane moved up to joint third-placed with seven goals, level with Spain’s Alvaro Morata, compatriot Alan Shearer and Griezmann.

Only Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (14) and Michel Platini (nine) have scored more goals. — dpa
