Terengganu beat Selangor 3-2 in FA Cup semi-final first leg


PETALING JAYA: A thrilling encounter saw Terengganu edge past Selangor with a 3-2 victory at home in the first leg of the FA Cup semi-final on Friday (July 19).

At the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak, the home side started strong by taking the lead at the half-hour mark through Safawi Rasid.

Terengganu extended their lead when Nurillo Tukhtasinov found the back of the net in the 35th minute.

The Red Giants reduced the margin before half-time as Alvin Fortes scored three minutes later.

Selangor then made it all square between the two sides as midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh scored right out of half-time to make it 2-2 in the 47th minute.

In the 69th minute, striker Ishmaheel Akinade regained the lead for Terengganu by heading the ball from the edge of the box, sending it above Selangor goalkeeper Samuel Somerville’s head and into the goal.

It was enough to see Terengganu take the win and advantage heading into the second leg fixture when they play Selangor at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium on August 3.
