Club’s acting president insists issues will be resolved soon

PETALING JAYA: It may not all be sunshine and rainbows just yet, but the skies seem to be parting for Kuala Lumpur players and their salary arrears.

Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) acting president Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid said the owed salaries and delayed Employees Provident Fund (EPF) payments from February last year will be settled soon.

“We will solve these issues as soon as possible. We have discussed this matter with the players and they are aware that a solution is coming,” said Abdullah Sani during a press conference at the Cheras Football Stadium yesterday.

“There are some other issues within the club that have been taken care of and we are now waiting for the additional funds to come in so we can pay the salary arrears.’’

He added that the KLFA congress is set to take place on Sept 7, and will focus on urgent issues including salary arrears, EPF debt, and audit reports.

“Give the KLFA executive council the opportunity and space to solve these issues. It has been going on for too long and it’s too complicated to explain in detail,” said Abdullah Sani.

Meanwhile, KLFA vice president and KL United FC Sdn Bhd director Syed Yazid Syed Omar said the players had received partial payments yesterday and will be getting the following payments for the month of April and May next week.

Syed Yazid said the players will be paid back in full, despite KLFA secretary general Nokman Mustaffa stating that they will try to get a “discount” related to the Paulo Josue salary arrears for the off-season period.

“From my point of view, I feel that the players should be paid back in full as we have to follow the contract that was given to them.

“We have missed a few months, so saying that we want to get a discount isn’t right.

“The players are waiting for their full salaries because when it’s late, their commitments and other payments will be delayed as well.

‘‘It’s unfair for the players,” said Syed Yazid.
