National U-19 boys hit double figures in great start at Asean Championship


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia made a superb start to their Under-19 Asean Championship campaign by demolishing Brunei 11-0 in their opening Group C match in Surabaya, Indonesia, yesterday.

The defending champions needed just two minutes to notch their opening goal through Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) II striker G. Pavithran.

Striker Abid Safaraz Rozaidi (14th, 16th), Danish Hakimi Sahaludin (25th), Haykal Danish Mohd Haizon (42nd) and a second from Pavithran (43rd) saw Malaysia take a comfortable 6-0 cushion into the break.

Malaysia continued to maintain their aggressive play in the second half with Izzat Syahir Mohd Zulihsan (51st), Amir Farhan Mohd Fuzi (66th), Zamirul Hakim Mohamad Khair (73rd), Abid (79th) and Shafizan Arshad (81st) completing the rout.

Malaysia will take on Singapore next on Monday followed by Thailand on July 25.
