PETALING JAYA: Bosnian winger Jovan Motika (pic) believes his goal for Kuala Lumpur in the 1-0 Klang Valley derby win over Selangor last week could not have come at a better time.
The 26-year-old has been a livewire for the City Boys in their first three games in the Super League with his inspired play on the left flank, but he failed to cap all that with a goal.
And he can’t help feeling that his cheeky winner against the Red Giants, where he slotted the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Samuel Sommerville, was just reward for his efforts.
The former Radnik and NK Bjelovar player also said that it was the best goal he has scored so far in his career.
“This will always be my favourite goal because I know how what that win means to the club and the players,’’ said Motika.
“The feeling is quite extraordinary when they play Selangor and I’m so glad I scored the winner.
“A day before the game against Selangor, I keep hearing about the passion and excitement that it will generate among the players and fans.
“It was a thrill to experience all that and to help the team win is just amazing.’’
Motika was one of KL’s new foreign signings during the first transfer window.
The others are Montenegrin centreback Adrijan Rudovic and Serbian midfielder Lazar Sajcic.
Rudovic and Motika have been regulars for the club while Sajcic is recovering from an injury.
With Motika’s first goal, KL are hoping that their high-flying winger can help them maintain their place in the top half of the Super League.
The City Boys are now fourth with seven points from four matches and will face Pahang next at the Cheras Football Stadium on July 27.
