PFA urge fans to continue strong support for Harimau Malaya after Pan-gon’s exit

PETALING JAYA: Coaches come and go in football. And Perlis Football Association (PFA) president Zamri Ibrahim has urged fans to continue giving full support to the Harimau Malaya squad even though they are no longer under the management of South Korean coach Kim Pan-gon, who resigned last week.

Zamri stated that the resignation of a coach is a normal occurrence in football and it is not appropriate to blame Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin for what has happened.

“The PFA consider Pan Gon’s resignation to be common in the era of professional football. Based on the announcement made by Pan-gon, it is evident that the coach resigned due to his own volition – that is without external coercion.

“Therefore, the PFA believe that FAM and Pan-gon came to a mutual arrangement as there were no claims for compensation between the two parties. As is well known, the coach still had a contract remaining until December 2025,” said Zamri in a media statement yesterday.

He also called on the country’s football supporters to continue giving strong support to the national team who will be competing in the 2024 Merdeka Tournament in September under the guidance of interim coach Pau Marti Vicente.

“As president of PFA, I urge all fans and supporters of Malaysian football to continue supporting the efforts of the FAM leadership in advancing the country’s football.

“For the record, the efforts and hard work carried out by Datuk Hamidin as the president of FAM and his executive team over the past few years to elevate the country’s football ranking should be praised and recognised for their success.

“Once again, I urge everyone to unite in ensuring that our football team make a strong impact on the international stage,” said Zamri.
