PETALING JAYA: Seven matches into the Super League season, and Negri Sembilan are still in search of their second win.
Having only won one fixture against Pahang last month, the Deer sit 12th with three points, equal with last-place Kelantan.
After losing 1-2 to Police on Sunday in their sixth loss of the season, coach Azzmi Aziz is hoping for some changes in his roster but is aware the club’s management have their hands tied financially as well.
“There are weaknesses in the team, especially in the midfield and attack, and we need to make improvement.
“It is up to the management. I’m aware that in terms of the budget, it has been about saving costs from the start, we know we can’t afford it.
“But without improvements, we will be left behind,” he said.
Azzmi added that the lack of quality players coupled with individual mistakes during gameplay has been a factor in the team’s poor performance.
He said the team had played well in the first half against Pahang, but a lack of focus cost the team the lead and three points.
“We played well in the first half but after that, the players seemed to lose their focus. That gave the opposition the chance to take advantage of our mistakes.
“But I don’t want to put the blame on anyone and I accept that there are weaknesses in the team that need to be improved.
“I take the responsibility and hope we can be better in the next match,” he said.
Azzmi will be desperate for a win in their upcoming fixture against ninth-place Kedah on Saturday.
