PETALING JAYA: Having won just one of their seven Super League matches so far seems like a jumbo problem for Pahang.
The Elephants, under the tutelage of Singaporean legend Fandi Ahmad, have not picked up full points since their 1-0 win over Kelantan in their season opener on May 11.
They’ve gone on to lose three times and draw thrice, with their last encounter being a 2-3 defeat to Sabah on Aug 9.
What makes these stats even more alarming is that Pahang are targeting a top-five finish but are lying 11th in the table with just six points.
Fandi’s men will be desperately seeking a win in an East Coast derby against Terengganu at the Sultan Mizan Stadium in Gong Badak today.
They have their work cut out though, as the Turtles sit third in the standings with 14 points from seven matches.
Pahang playmaker Sergio Aguero is aware of the urgency to get a win but he insists that their six-game winless run is not a true indication of the team’s quality.
‘’Our performances have been generally fine, it’s just that the results have not gone our way. Like in the loss to Sabah, we played our best game so far but sadly, luck was not on our side,’’ he said.
“But we’re highly motivated and have prepared well for the game against Terengganu.’’
Aguero has been one of the leaders in the team, along with centrebacks Mohd Fadhli Shas and Stefano Brundo, with his commanding displays.
He said the team are united in their efforts to break out of the current rut.
‘’Pahang are a team with a big reputation and we must live up to it,” he added.
