Faye ends Negri’s losing streak with fabulous show

PETALING JAYA: Negri Sembilan’s midfielder Jacques Faye (pic) from Senegal became a hero when he helped his team hold Kedah 2-2 at the Darulaman Stadium yesterday.

It was not a win but the point was a precious one as the Deer had just started their journey under new coach K. Nanthakumar.

Faye, 31, scored his goals in the 45th and 79th minutes, while Kedah’s goals were scored by Haitian winger Sony Norde (54th) and Brazilian centreback Cleylton dos Santos (62nd).

Before the game against the Canaries, Negri had been on a three-game losing streak.

“Great start under the new coaching set-up. Based on the match against Kedah, I believe this team can do way much better moving forward,” said Faye, who played for Police last season.

“Coaches and team helped me to get my goals during the match.

“I believe that all coaches have the same vision and mission, which is to get as many points as possible for the team and same goes to coach Nantha.

“As for my performance, despite scoring two against Kedah, I cannot be happy yet. We have to continue to play as a unit.”

Faye’s introduction to Malaysian football was through the social leagues and he only made his professional debut last year.

“Malaysia is great, it is diverse in terms of everything, including the football scene. There’s a lot for me to learn, and I’m happy to be part of it.”

Negri remained at 12th with four points, while Kedah are at eighth spot with eight points.
