Soccer-Napoli sign Brazilian forward Neres from Benfica

(Reuters) - Napoli have signed Brazilian winger David Neres from Portuguese side Benfica in a permanent move, the Serie A club said on Wednesday.

The deal was worth 28 million euros ($31.16 million), with add-ons that could increase the value to 30 million euros ($33.4 million), Benfica said in a statement.

The 27-year-old Brazil international, capped eight times, started his career at Brazil's Sao Paulo before spells at Ajax Amsterdam and Shakhtar Donetsk.

Neres moved to Benfica in 2022, winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga in his first season and scoring 17 goals in 83 appearances for the club.

Napoli, who failed to defend their Serie A title last season after finishing 10th, host Bologna on Aug. 25.
