Police lock down for FA Cup final

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Lumpur police will take extra precautions to prevent any attempt by fans to mar the FA Cup showdown between Selangor and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Saturday.

A total of 2,488 personnel will be deployed to ensure the bitter rivalry between the fans - expected to number 85,000 - does not boil over, both in the stadium and ouside, said KL police chief commissioner Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa.

The partisan fans will be super charged for the final clash which is the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The last time they were supposed to meet, in the Charity Shield match on May 10, Selangor pulled out after an acid attack on key player Faisal Halim.

Comm Rusdi warned the fans against any provocation before, during or after the match.

“We do not want to see any provocation and will take stern action,” said Rusdi.

“We will be deploying 2,488 officers with seven road closures. Vehicles that block traffic will be towed away and summonses issued.

“Body searches will also be conducted at the stadium’s entrance. Fans are advised to use public transportation,” he said, while advising those not attending the match to stay away from stadium area.

Among the prohibited items are fireworks and flares, helmets, whistles, megaphones, drums, water bottles, alcoholic beverages and other canned drinks, cigarettes, sharp and blunt weapons, drones, drugs, umbrellas, walking sticks and power banks.

Prasarana will also be extending the rail operation time as the fans are expected to leave the Bukit Jalil arena after midnight.

The public can get more information from the KL traffic investigation and enforcement department (JSPT) Facebook account (https://www.facebook.com/JsptKL/).
