PETALING JAYA: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) beat Kuching City 2-1 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri to stay on the top but coach Hector Bidoglio was wearing a frown on his face.

Bidoglio said the players did not play to the standards they were expected to although JDT knew they would not have an easy time against Aidil Sharin Sahak’s squad.

“I’ve told the players to show improvement in every game. The quality of the game must be at the best level but we seemed to be less effective tonight (on Friday),” said Bidoglio.

JDT took the lead through Bergson Da Silva after three minutes of the second half.

Juan Muniz then made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute before Fernando Welter closed the gap for Kuching a minute later.

“Our players tried to give a 100% performance but this is football, there are ups and downs.

“Not everything will always be perfect and we have to accept the fact that what was on display was not the actual quality of JDT’s game.

“In my observation, we tried to move the ball from one side to the other but were not able to penetrate the control of the opposing team players who were clearly very disciplined,” said the Argentinian.

Bidoglio, however, did not deny that the players were more focused for the upcoming Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) match against Shanghai Shenhua this Tuesday and the situation caused them to play cautiously to avoid any injuries.

Kuching’s coach Aidil was happy with the commitment showed by his charges.

“I’m happy to see them perform like this despite facing the giants like JDT.

“They can be proud of the performance they gave and we are determined to be better in the next game.

“We were without Jordan (Mintah) and Danial Amier (on loan from JDT).

“I told them that whoever was fielded had to give 100% and this is what the young and local players showed.

“We will continue to improve after this, we have a target to be a better team than last season but it will take time,” added Aidil.
