PETALING JAYA: Tackling the salary arrears for Kuala Lumpur will be the first order of business for newly elected Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) president Syed Yazid Syed Omar.

Syed Yazid secured 15 votes during the congress and elections yesterday, defeating challenger Datuk Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid, who collected 12 votes.

He said the top priority for the new leadership will be to settle the ongoing financial issues for the club.

“I will continue my fight now that I am president. I will take on this responsibility and the most important thing will be to settle the salary arrears.

“I have been preparing my course of action before the elections, I have already started to tackle the financial problems which is my first order of business,” he said.

Syed Yazid said he will also be looking into the club’s management but added that he maintains a good relationship with club chief executive officer Stanley Bernard.

“So far things between me and Stanley are good. If there are any decisions that will be made, it will be during the executive council meeting,” he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Kamarudin Hassan and Datuk Seri Wong Yeon Chai were elected deputy presidents with 18 and 15 votes respectively.

The four vice presidents posts were won by Datuk Ramlan Askolani, Nor Asyikin Jaafar, Datuk Sham Shamrat Sen Gupta, and Datuk Hisamudin Yahaya.

Syed Yazid added that the majority of the new executive council members are from his camp, which would make governing the association until 2028 a smoother process.

He also shared that there are potential sponsors waiting to come on board both from government agencies and the private sector.

With the club having faced financial difficulties for some time, Syed Yazid also said he would be meeting with the players to assure them of the team’s future stability.

“I know most of the players, I will be meeting and talking to them as soon as I’m able to,” he said.
